I know there is quite a swirl of information regarding the recent announcements from Governor Pritzker and I know many of you have questions about the next steps for CLC. I offer the following information to provide clarification on what we know, what we are working on and what next steps you can anticipate.
BACKGROUND:
- On Monday, February 7, a temporary restraining order was issued in Sangamon County. The order applies only to certain K-12 school districts in Illinois. The Judge’s order has no impact on higher education institutions. Thus, CLC continues to uphold its current protocols as required by the Governor’s mandate, including required masks and proof of vaccination or weekly testing.

- in Pre-K through Grade 12 school settings, subject to pending litigation which impacts a number of Illinois school districts;
- where federal laws and regulations so require, such as on public transportation systems, including airports, planes, trains, and buses;
- in high-risk settings, including healthcare facilities, long-term care facilities, and congregate settings (e.g., prisons and shelters);
- in daycare settings, as required by DCFS; and
- as required by local business and workplace guidelines.

- The Governor’s announcement that lifts mask mandates beginning on or after February 28, 2022 will apply to higher education. Colleges may decide to enforce more stringent requirements.

Over the next two weeks, the Emergency Operations Team (EOT) and the Board of Trustees will be evaluating the current COVID-19 mitigation strategies in the CLC Operations, Learning and Service Delivery Plan. Once final decisions have been made, they will be communicated broadly.
